Prop. 206 Seminar on February 1, 2017

    January 9, 2017

The Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Prescott Area Human Resources Association (PAHRA) are jointly sponsoring an informational seminar, “Implementing the Fair Wages and Healthy Families Act: Prop. 206” on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, in the auditorium of the Prescott Valley Library.  Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m., and the program is from 9-10:30 a.m.

Proposition 206 was passed by Arizona voters in November 2016 and includes progressive increases in the state’s minimum wage; the first increase rose to $10.00 an hour effective January 1, 2017.  While much discussion about this new law has been centered around the minimum wage increase, a more complicated aspect of the law will take effect July 1, 2017, requiring almost every employer in the state, including those with only one employee, to begin paying sick leave to their employees.  It is vitally important that employers understand what they will need to do to be compliant with this law prior to the effective date.

Laura Hamblin, a Prescott attorney, has designed this workshop to educate employers of all sizes, whether or not those individuals perform human resources tasks as part of their responsibilities.  Attendance is free.  Pre-registration is strongly encouraged.   To register or for more information contact Gloria at the Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce at 928-772-8857.  1.5 recertification credits pending with HRCI/SHRM.
